AT THE STRAIT GATE:
for wide [is] the gate,
and broad [is] the way, that leadeth to destruction, and many there be
which go in thereat: Because strait [is] the gate, and narrow [is] the
way, which leadeth unto life, and few there be that find it. Matthew
7:13-14
Most churches today are
playing a numbers game. Those that have big numbers want more, those
whose numbers are dwindling are casting around for ways to increase
their numbers. As a consequence it is not really difficult to "get in"
to the membership of most churches.
On the other hand is it
really difficult to get into membership in God’s Church, the mystical
church which is called in the Bible the Body of Christ (1Co 12:27; Eph
4:12) The Bible teaches this difficulty as fact in Matthew 7: 13-14
(quoted in full above) A number of things make it difficult, not the
least of which is the fact that the Way in is contrary to today’s
popular, global religion. The Way in is exclusive. The way in is a
Person, the person referred to in the Bible as the Door of the sheep:
Then said Jesus unto them again, Verily, verily, I say unto you, I am
the door of the sheep. John 10:7
It was Jesus who said:
I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father,
but by me. John 14:6 The truth is not always politically correct but
then politics pertains to men and truth belongs to God.
If you know of a church
where the truth of the Word of God is the governing factor, where the
criterion for membership is believing in trusting in and relying on
Jesus Christ alone for salvation, repentance and baptism in the name of
the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Ghost as Jesus directed and a proven walk in the good works of obedience, that is a church worth the
joining.
Proverbs 1:5
5 A wise [man] will hear, and will increase learning; and a man of
understanding shall attain unto wise counsels:
6 To understand a proverb, and the interpretation; the words of the
wise, and their dark sayings.
7 ¶ The fear of the LORD [is] the beginning of knowledge: [but] fools
despise wisdom and instruction.
